Kingsville Brewery: Former NHL Goalie Turco's Craft Beer Venture

Discover the Story of Kingsville Brewery: A Craft Brewery Journey

The sport of hockey and beer go together like fish and chips or peanut butter and jelly. A cold, frosty one after a spirited game on the ice has always proven to be a natural combination. In fact, in Canada, recreational hockey players are often referred to as beer leaguers.

Former NHL goalie Marty Turco has proven to be an all-star in both hockey and beer. Playing goal for nine seasons with the NHL’s Dallas Stars, Turco holds franchise records for wins, shutouts, and games. These days, though, Turco is more invested in pouring and brewing than he is in puck-stopping. He’s the co-owner of Kingsville Brewery, which he co-founded with his cousin Mark Muzzin in 2016.

The Origins of Kingsville Brewery

Located in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, about a 45-minute drive from Detroit, Kingsville Brewery has a charming backstory. Marty Turco’s ties to the Michigan area, combined with family connections just across the border in Kingsville, Ontario, led him into the craft brewery business.

Turco’s cousin Muzzin, a butcher from Kingsville, shared many summers with Marty in Sault Ste. Marie. One day, after many laughs, long nights, and one too many beers, they decided to transform their passion into a business, creating Kingsville Brewery.

A Peek Into Kingsville Brewery Beers

Kingsville Brewery offers a delightful variety of beers, each with its unique flavor profile:

  • India Pale Ale: This clear, dark amber beer has flavors of blueberry, grapefruit, grass, hay, toffee, pine, and spicy pepper. Initially bitter, it ends with a spicy finish.
  • Barrel Aged Stout: With coffee-colored foam and the aromas of fig, vanilla, and coffee, this stout reveals notes of dark chocolate and cocoa.
  • Czech Style Lager: A clear amber lager with the aroma of dry leaves. It carries the essence of bread, biscuit, and toast with each sip.
  • Hefeweizen: A dessert beer that hits the taste buds with ripe banana, bubble gum, honey, and a hint of clove, followed by the taste of bread and banana.
  • Light Eh! Lager: For the calorie-conscious, this beer has a crisp, clean finish with aromas of butterscotch, cereal, and biscuit, combined with the taste of whole grain bread and honey.

Enjoy Anywhere, Anytime

Kingsville Brewery products are available across Michigan and can be ordered online. If you’re passing through Love Field in Dallas, you can even enjoy these beers at Turco 35, the bar owned by Turco himself.
