Farewell Dutch Trading Co: Celebrating a Beloved Craft Beer Venue

Farewell to Dutch Trading Co: A Beloved Craft Beer Venue

After nearly a decade of serving as a cherished Craft Beer venue in Western Australia, the Dutch Trading Co. is preparing to close its doors in August. This popular spot, recognized as the 2018 Beer & Brewer Top Australian Beer Venue, leaves behind a legacy that has deeply influenced the local beer community.

The Journey of Dutch Trading Co.

Co-owner Joel Beresford announced that the decision to close Dutch Trading Co. came after much contemplation. He felt that the venue had achieved its mission in the craft beer bar scene and wanted to take on new projects. “Dutch Trading Co. could have kept going indefinitely, but we felt that we had succeeded with our craft beer agenda,” Beresford shared. With a lease agreement approaching, the decision was made to explore new horizons.

A Hub for Beer Events and Camaraderie

Since opening in 2015, Dutch Trading Co. has been a buzzing hub for beer events, hosting numerous prominent occurrences annually. One notable event was the Wild ‘n’ Sour, part of Brasserie Carillon’s international Zwanze Day. Themed celebrations such as Tropical Darkness and SludgeFest illustrated the team’s creative approach and dedication to creating a unique ambiance for their patrons.

Memorable Highlights

Over the years, Dutch Trading Co. has created countless memories for both staff and customers. Some highlights include:

  • Wild ‘n’ Sour – a part of Brasserie Carillon’s Zwanze Day
  • Tropical Darkness – transforming the venue into a vibrant jungle during the winter solstice
  • Day of the Dead – a spectacular annual celebration with New Zealand brewery Garage Project

Beresford fondly recalls the connections made within the industry, such as hosting a live feed tasting with Karel Boon of Boon Lambic and the enthusiastic response from participants.

Final Farewell at the Craft Beer Venue

In keeping with their tradition, Dutch Trading Co. is planning a series of events to celebrate their final month. After a vibrant Fourth of July festivity, the team is gearing up for the final SludgeFest, which will feature some of the most unique beers ever offered at the venue. The last two weeks will be a grand party, sharing the best from their cellar with friends and patrons.

New Ventures on the Horizon

While the closure of Dutch Trading Co. marks the end of an era, Beresford hints at exciting new beginnings. A new venue is set to open in November, promising fresh challenges and growth opportunities for the team. “New challenges await, and a renewal gives us an opportunity to grow and learn new skills as individuals as well as a business,” Beresford teases.
